E3 Day 1 - Sony: Apologia et Vita (or Something Like That)

Sony's press conference was exactly how I thought it would be in terms of tone, but that's a good thing. No Kevin Butler this year to joke it up with the crowd. a lot of announcements, a lot of exclusives, a re-naming of the NGP and even more solid-looking games for the new handheld. Jack Tretton was almost sheepish in laying out Sony's apology to gamers and publishers who've been suffering with all this hacking nonsense since April. But after the frowny times for a minute or two, things got rolling with plenty of first-party power.

Sony Ericsson Announces Xperia PLAY DK300 Multimedia Dock

Of course, the first accessory for Sony Ericsson's upcoming phone was also announced in Barcelona, so here's a look at a few images plus more specs (this one's shorter - put down the baseball bat!). I like the simplicity of the design and how well it compliments the phone while not taking up a bunch of desk space. Like the PLAY, price is TBA (hey, that rhymes!)

Yeah, yeah - some of you want tech specs, right? Well here you go, a ton of letters and numbers that add up to what's under the skin of Sony Ericsson's upcoming phone/gaming handheld. Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Barcelona Videos (Part Four): The Long & Short Of It...

Got half an hour or so to spare? Good. Check out these two chunks of footage from the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from earlier today. Spring has sprung and even some of the former haters are liking what they see. Well except those negatively creepy clowns who can't seem to realize that gameplay footage from a press event or trailer isn't 100% representative of the FINAL code. Geez, grow up already!

Full details (and that contest!) below the jump (except specs - those are coming), but my quick take on all this excitement: Pre-loaded with the Sims 3, Tetris and four other games, 50 titles at launch (or within the launch window). Loads of developer support from small to large studios. At this point, I won't even be making a single phone call, have ZERO time for Facebooking nor using that 5.1 MP camera - I'll be to darn busy playing all those new GAMES. Verizon, huh? Well, in terms of coverage and service, it's a hell of a lot better than AT & T, that's for sure...
