TGS 2011: Resident Evil Revelations Trailer

Well, the whole helpless female vibe going on here is not exactly going to make the gal gamers too happy (nor anyone who hates this particular stereotype in gaming), but here it is. Nintendo 3DS owners are in store for another great-looking Resident Evil game with hopefully much better gameplay and multiple save slots this time. I guess we'll have to see when the game ships now, won't we?

TGS 2011: Namco Bandai Trailer Blowout: TOO Many Good Games + Some Surprises

Yikes. I don't have time to write up separate posts for all of these, so I'll let the assortment of trailers above and below (and below the the jump) show you some of what's cooking at TGS from Namco Bandai. Between the nice support for PS Vita and 3DS plus the other key console titles coming, it's clear that the publisher is really intent on bringing it where it counts. There's definitely something for just about every taste in this lineup. I'll try and get some screens up this weekend or next week, as I'm swamped with a few reviews and such to get done. I will say that Katamari looks like it will be an absolute dream on Vita, especially with the double touchscreen deal...

Nintendo 3DS Trailer Trio: Big Guns, More Motoring With Mushrooms & Slippy Is Still Annoying

Since Nintendo isn't at TGS this year, it held a pre-show event to announce a few important games, peripherals and other interesting news for the worldwide market. Items of note: a pink 3DS for the gals out there and a few game announcements to go with it (slightly sexist or clever marketing to the ladies? It's your call), a nice chunk of LOZ: Skyward Sword info (50-100 hours? Excellent - sign me up!) and the oddball 3DS Slide Pad. It's an inexpensive add-on that makes the handheld bigger and adds a second circle pad to the right of the face buttons. Hmmm. Does that mean I can expect a classic twin stick game like Libble Rabble to show up on the 3DS at some point? NO? Crap... I was hoping to see that weird as hell Namco arcade game again one day. Oh well... good thing I still have the Super Famicom port with the funky controller disc add on. All snark aside, here are three trailers to ogle. Still don't have a 3DS yet? Well, it's cheaper, there are some great games for it and more good games are coming. Some are delayed (sorry, Kid Icarus fans!), but they're on the way. Oh, Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land trailers are a click away...

Tales Of The Abyss Trailers Are Another Fine Reason To Snap Up A 3DS

Yes, even if you've played the game previously, Namco Bandai's upcoming remake looks good enough to make me want to go through it all over again. Given that the original can be pricey once you track it down, it's nice to see the 3DS getting more quality titles fans want to see appear on the handheld whether they use the 3D effect to its fullest or not.

SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked '8th Day' Teaser

Here's a peek at Atlus's remastered RPG, headed to the 3Ds now with full voice acting, enhanced higher-definition art and an all new 8th Day section not found in the DS game. North American gamers will be dancing with joy, but UK and European 3DS owners are out of luck, as there are no plans to release this in those territories and as you know, the 3DS is region locked. Perhaps some third-party publisher can do the deed, but I'd gather it's not going to happen because of the localization issues required for each non-English speaking territory (not inexpensive to do, mind you).

Gamescom 2011: Resident Evil Revelations Trailers

Definitely looking like a step up from the last RE 3DS game, Revelations brings improved gameplay and a new storyline to the mix that focuses on events from the original classic rather than a rehashed game mode from another game. As you can see from the two gameplay trailers below the jump, RER has some of that classic feel fans crave, but the presentation is definitely a lot more impressive than it was back on the PlayStation. Here's hoping the overall experience is much better than expected and there's a better save system in play.

SMT Devil Survivor: Overclocked Auction House/Fusion Video

Atlus sure knows how to make the end of the world highly enjoyable, that's for sure. Even though I sunk something like 160 hours into the DS version, I'm actually thinking about doing it all over again on the 3DS shortly. Check out some of the Demon Auction and Demon Fusion parts from Atlus' upcoming RPG. Yeah, the person doing the bidding in the video isn't exactly the best beast buyer, but I'd gather this clip is only showing off the features to those who haven't yet played the game or who want to see what it looks like in action on the 3DS.

Nintendo Announces Flame Red 3DS Model For 9/9/2011

Hot on the heels of the recent price drop announcement, Nintendo has revealed a new Flame Red 3DS model set to hit stores September 9th, the same day Star Fox 64 3DS is released. Combine this with the 20 free downloadable games deal Nintendo is offering early adopters and you're looking at a nice package for any gamer finally looking to snap up the handheld. The big Q here is will a flashy new color help drive sales along with what's looking like a pretty solid 3D remake of another popular franchise game? I'd say that's up to you non 3DS owners out there to decide, right?

Tough Love: I'd Feel Sorry For Nintendo If They Were Smarter...

Call me crazy, but it looks as if history is repeating itself, this time a bit louder. The last time Nintendo tried to capitalize on the 3D "trend", we ended up with the Virtual Boy, an interesting yet flawed device that tanked because it was too unwieldy, initially too expensive and only had a handful of monochrome titles released with few others cancelled or shipped out in small quantities. It landed in the discount bins at rental shops like Blockbuster and retail stores and is now a rather cool collectible that showed Nintendo does indeed make the occasional mistake. Flash forward to this week's news that the 3DS is getting a 32% price chop (which resulted in Nintendo's stock dropping by 21% as of this writing) and yes, thanks to a number of high profile game delays and cancellations, it's a case of here we go again... almost.

Mega Man Legends 3 Officially Dead (OR: Well, If You'd Listened to Me, It Might Not Be...)

Dear Capcom, The next time you have the bright idea to complete a trilogy a few years too late, try publishing HD versions of the first two Legends games (and Tron Bonne's adventure) on a DISC (PS3/360 and hell, maybe even Wii and PC), then use the profits from THAT to fund the new game, which SHOULD have also been on a console and not a 3DS exclusive.

I think the project was doomed from the start because it was going to be on a system with a fraction of the user base the original PS1 had. That and introducing gamers who may have missed out on the original games to the world and characters is always a LOT better than dropping a sequel onto a new system where more than half the people who might pick it up have never heard of (or played) the other titles. You DO know that the PS1 games fetch a TON of real money on auction sites, right? Ah well... live and learn, I suppose. RIP MML3!

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Launch Trailer

Crap. This means I'll need to think about buying a 3DS after all. And here I am, trying to save up to get my damn passport renewed, pay for meds and a few other important things. Oh well... I guess I don't need that extra kidney after all (and a 3DS IS cheaper than an iPad!)... The game looks pretty darn good so far (although you kind of don't see that much of it in action, the visuals are pretty spectacular).

Nintendo @E3 2011: Day 2 and 3 Wrap-Ups

Bang and POW! Here are Nintendo's own E3 videos featuring a ton of cool games and info. I'll also be posting all of the 3DS and Wii trailers starting next week in case you missed them. Wii U videos as as well are coming. As for the stock drop as a result of the Wii U announcement... Hell, am I the ONLY one who got that darn presentation? Analysts are dopes ESPECIALLY if they're not game developers or gamers. All I'll say is this sort of inane speculation that drives stock prices down is ridiculous.

E3 2011: Nintendo Has Its Day In the Sun (Indoors)

Here's Nintendo's always sunny take on its E3 press conference. I'm still surprised as hell SO many so-called professionals were "confused" by the Wii U unveiling. Reggie? Call me - I got it. Boy did I get it... Now I hope to hell all the developers that get cooking making games for the new console get it as well...

EA E3 2011 Press Conference

Yup, it's the whole darn thing warts and all, so pull up a chair and grab a nice cold drink if you haven't seen it yet. I'm buried under news, trailers and assorted updates, but who isn't? Off to NOT raise some hell and look at more games - back later...

Wii U: Nintendo Changes The Game (AGAIN)

Well, who DIDN'T think they weren't going to blow minds at today's conference? Showing off the new controller while not babbling about the console's tech specs (or showing the console itself) was an excellent move that baffled some editor-types and online posters. YES, the unseen actual system does HD 1080p graphics and based on the slick teaser videos and live announcements, we'll be seeing the same SKUS on the PS3 and 360 for some key upcoming titles with Wii U functionality.

I like the HUD moved to the tablet idea (more real estate on your TV screen for game action) in some titles, the sketchpad (yes!) and other cool things. Sure, the console's price point (and additional tablet controllers) will be the wallet kicker for most folks, but we won't get that information until sometime next year, I'm thinking. I'm sure it's not going to be cheap, but Nintendo has a way with showing tech that has many consumers more than eager to pay up. Cue Miyamoto saying "ITEM GET!", a live orchestra playing some Zelda music and people reaching for their wallets.

EA jumping on board so strongly is a big plus for sports fans (and maybe Dead Space 2 is headed to the console along with Mass Effect at some point) and seeing Ken Levine's eyes twinkle means I bet there's a Big Daddy or three coming to Nintendo's new system at some point. As well as a LOT of other stuff to appease the hardcore, Nintendo die-hards and others. Skeptics beware... this is going to get REALLY interesting as developers start peeling back the covers on their Wii U projects over the coming months...

More later - I've got some more games to see...

Konami's Pre-E3 Video Is Brilliant Stuff

Absolutely one of the best and funniest presentations I've seen, Konami provided a pre-E3 showing that was informative and innovative while showing off a number of upcoming titles. I'm absolutely grabbing that Metal Gear Solid HD collection, the Silent Hill HD collection, NeverDead and a few other games. Kojima's got a great sense of humor as you'll see, but his "Transfarring" idea is one of the best uses of PSp/NGP and PS3 connectivity to date. Amusingly enough, I'd thought of this when the PSP was announced, but I don't make games. Still, why Sony didn't do this (or think of it) is a bit odd. Nevertheless, it's a phenomenal idea I can see other publishers jumping on, particularly in this day and age of people whining about games being too short or not getting enough value out of that sixty bucks. Anyway, go watch the video and enjoy the cool surprise at the end...

PrE3: Sega Lineup Packed With Aliens, Hedgehogs & Other Warm, Fuzzy Stuff...

Yeah, yeah, Thor wasn't all that hot (except for the DS version, which rocked in an solid, reliable old-school way - go WayForward!), but let's move on, shall we? It looks as if Sega has a pretty smoking 2011-2012 lineup, as you'll see from the long list below the jump.

Square Enix' E3 Lineup: From Assassins to Zombies, You're Covered Quite Well...

With a determined focus toward publishing more varied games developed around the world as well as keeping its core JRPG franchises alive and well, Square Enix is really pushing "content" this year. In other words, they have more than enough content to keep core gamers VERY content, indeed. Their E3 2011 lineup is pretty amazing overall, featuring a few types of RPG's, sequels that mean something (thanks to a reboot or two) as well as an all-new IP that's been on everyone's radar from its first mind-blowing backward spooling trailer. Full press release below the jump.

Ridge Racer 3DS "New Generation" UK Trailer

Sure, 3D is the "latest" gimmick hitting the gaming scene (again, like it or not), but it looks as if this generation's consoles has finally gotten the effect right (even though I expect those play sessions to be not much longer than they were back in the Master System 3D days). Check out this cool trailer for the upcoming 3DS racer - yeah, it's good ol' Ridge Racer, but with a few new tweaks to the formula that should make it a decent enough hit for Nintendo and Namco Bandai.
