Capcom Announces Mega Man Legends 3 Project, New Resident Evil For 3DS

In one of the best "IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN" TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME!" sequel announcements this year, Capcom has made me and a whole bunch of gamers pretty happy clams (well, mostly). A new Mega Man Legends game is on the way (yay!) for the 3DS (er, Yay?). While a new cross-platform game would have been even more fantastic (especially with HD remakes of the previous MML/Tron Bonne games), it looks as if Nintendo's upcoming must-have bank-breaking handheld wonder will be the lucky recipient of this latest installment.

Anyway, press release, logos and RE 3D screens below the jump. I'm going to go dance around the room a bit before crying as I check my bank account (and cry some more afterward).

TOKYO — September 29, 2010 — Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games today announced that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D are in development for the Nintendo 3DS platform. Fans of both iconic series will see their favorite heroes and villains come to life like never before with Nintendo’s breakthrough 3D technology. The announcements were made during the Nintendo Conference 2010 which took place in Japan earlier today.

For years, fans have been clamoring for a new installment to the Mega Man Legends series and now the Mega Man Legends 3 Project will see their request realized. Indeed, fans will have an opportunity to be part of the development process like never before as they interact directly with the team.

“We have wanted to create a new installment in this series for a number of years,” said the title’s Executive Producer, Keiji Inafune. “It is great that we now have the opportunity to bring this title to the Nintendo 3DS.”

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will deliver relentless action set in the Resident Evil universe with players competing against the clock to defeat as many enemies as possible in a set time. Featuring Mercenaries missions from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, now fully realised in stunning 3D, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will add brand new modes and well known characters from the series to enrich and extend the Mercenaries experience.
